Spray Polyurethane Foam (SPF)

What is SPF?
Spray polyurethane foam (SPF)  is an insulating foam plastic that goes on as a liquid and then expands many times its original size - completely sealing and conforming to any open space.

Why use SPF?

  • Foam is the superior insulator.
Foam is used to insulate freezers and refrigerators in commercial and residential applications.  Foam is also used to insulate 5 day ice chests.

  • Foam minimizes air infiltration.
Air infiltration can account for over 40% of your heating and cooling costs.

  • Foam seals attics.
SPF creates a semi-conditioned space in your attic.  A/C equipment will be operating in a comfortable environment - effectively reducing capacity requirements, maintenance, and wear of  your HVAC equipment.  No more superheated attics.

  • Cost effective
The cost of a foam insulation system can often be recovered in less than 3 years.  The small increase to your mortgage bill is much less than your monthly energy savings.

  • Other benefits
Foam insulation reduces noise levels.  Creates better indoor air quality by stopping air and moisture infiltration and by keeping dust and pollen out.,

SPF has the highest R-value for any given thickness compared to other insulating products. Spray foam provides twice the R-value per inch than batt insulation.

SPF can help save on framing cost by using 2x4 construction on exterior walls instead of the 2x6 studs used with traditional insulation.   This can also increase the amount of living space by as much as 35 sq. ft. in a 1,500 sq.ft. new home.  Foam insulation helps control moisture condensation.  It won't shrink or settle.
